The 3rd World BOSAI Forum was announced at the Sendai Future Disaster Prevention Forum 2022!
On March 5, 2022 (Saturday), an announcement event was held at the Sendai Disaster Prevention Future Forum 2022 regarding the holding of the 3rd World BOSAI Forum (March 10-13, 2023).
World BOSAI Forum, a general incorporated association, is currently holding the World Bosai Walk in advance of the 3rd World BOSAI Forum. The World Bosai Walk TOHOKU+10 is a walking event that will traverse the Tohoku coast from Fukushima to Aomori over approximately 40 days, conveying the stories of "Build Back Better" from people living and working in the area to both domestic and international audiences. *Reference: The journey across the Tohoku coast has begun!
At this event on March 5th, progress reports on the World Bosai Walk were presented. The walk aims to spread the concept of "Build Back Better" both domestically and internationally, and to build momentum for the 3rd World BOSAI Forum. Furthermore, the results of the World Bosai Walk will be compiled and presented at the 3rd World BOSAI Forum.
Focus on the "people" working on reconstruction.
The event introduced the three objectives of the World Bosai Walk.
1. Coverage and dissemination of information on "better recovery."
2. Creating a network of disaster memorial museums
3. Promoting the appeal of Tohoku in the post-COVID era.
This walk is unique in that it focuses on the "people" working on reconstruction, interviewing them as they walk from Fukushima to Aomori, and broadcasting the current state of reconstruction to the world. In addition to visiting Tohoku's disaster memorial museums and disaster-related sites to convey the situation at the time of the disaster and the efforts of local people toward reconstruction, the team also introduces delicious food through interactions with local sake brewers and fishermen. The walk team not only provides information related to Great East Japan Earthquake, but also conveys the hope that many people will visit Tohoku once the pandemic subsides, 10 years after the earthquake.
We also received video messages of support from Hachinohe Shuzo, the finish line, FM Iwaki, the starting point, and the proprietress of Maekawa Inn and Guesthouse in Kamaishi City.
The walking team departed from Iwaki City, Fukushima Prefecture on February 23rd, walking more than 20 km a day as they headed north to Natori City, Miyagi Prefecture, and joined the event just as they were passing through Sendai. So far, they have visited the Tomioka Archive Museum in Futaba District, Fukushima Prefecture, Kawauchi Winery in Kawauchi Village, and elementary schools that remain as earthquake-damaged structures, such as Ukedo Elementary School in Namie Town, Fukushima Prefecture, and Nakahama Elementary School in Yamamoto Town, Miyagi Prefecture.
